Sources:Enfield-Bryant Genealogy Jerry A. Enfield at jaenfield@worldnet.att.net He was a member of the House of Burgesses from Isle of Wight Co. inthe 1657-6 session (probab ly only a few years after his arrival in VA). He was also a member of the house in 1663. His residence was called 'Whitemarsh', probably after the patent he and William Burgh receive d of 7,800 acres on 7 Jun 1666, "beginning by a White Marsh, a meadow about half a mile fro m the main run of the Blackwater (River)" (now on Route 620, 'Pan Rd.', in Isle of Wight Co. ) This patent was for the transportation of 156 persons (including a Thomas Pitt - probably r elated to Col Robert Pitt, and a James Bridger -probably his brother, and himself). Colonel Bridger was Adjutant General of the Virginia forces in 1666 and commander of the Isl e of Wight militia in the Indian War of 1675. Colonel Bridger was a supporter of Govenor Berkeley during Bacon's Rebellion in 1676 and wa s denounced in Bacon's Proclamation of 1676. (Both the Colonel and the Govenor fled to Virgin ia's Eastern Shore during the rebellion.) Sir John Berry names among the eminent sufferers b y Bacon's Rebellion Col. Joseph Bridger, 'a very Resolute gentleman, who, though forced to f ly in the heat of war from his own countries yet on his Return was very Active and Instrument a1 in reducing to their obedience the South parte of James River". Received land grant of 43 2 acres inSurry Co., VA in 1673 [Patent Bk. #6]. Deeded land by John Perry, son of Phillip Perry of Whitemarsh, in1673. [W&M Qtrly vol 7, pg 2 29]. Made his will 18 Oct 1683; probated 8 May 1686. Names: wife Hester; sons: Joseph, Samuel, Wi lliam; daus: Martha (Godwin), Mary, Elizabeth. Henry Parrish, ancester of most of the name in Wiregrass Georgia, was born in South Carolina , January 27, 1786, a son of Henry Parrish, RS, and his wife Mrs. Mary Ann (Monk) Parrish. Hi s parents moved to Bullock County, GA., while he was yet a boy, and he grew up and married th ere and lived there until his removal to what was then Lowndes County, but now Berrien Co., i n 1825. He lived in Lowndes, now Berrien, until his death May 23, 1831, at the age of 45 year s. Mr. Parrish was married in Bullock County November 22, 1811, to Miss Nancy Williams, daugh ter of James Williams, R.S. (q.v.). She was born July 30, 1794 and died Feb. 11, 1886. Mr. P arrish settled in the present Berrien County community known as Lois. Lois Cemetery is locate d on the old Parrish Farm. Henry Parrish's grave was perhaps the first to be placed there, an d is the oldest marked grave in the county. This territory was cut out of Lowndes County int o Berrin County in 1856. Mrs. Nancy Parrish, the widow, and Malcolm McCranie were the adminis trators on the estate. In later years the widow married Henry Peeples but there was no furthe r issue. She was a member of Pleasant Primitive Babtist Church. NOTE: Mrs Florrie Parrish Hendry of Adel, became the first descendant to join the D.A.R. on d escent from Henry Parrish, R.S. She was a member of John Floyd Chapter D.A.R. Her National No . 386789. NOTE: Hon. J.J. Parrish of Adel, in his book entitled "PARRISH" published 1948, and now (1993 ) with two updates, has traced all the descendants of Henry Parrish, the subject. References; 1820, Bullock; 1830, Lowndes; Huxford- Pioneers of GA.
